Skills Lab Coordinator

Lab Coordinator

The Skills Laboratory Coordinator oversees the integration of simulation-based learning across all clinical faculties. By maintaining a high-fidelity environment, the Coordinator ensures that students move from the lab to the hospital ward with the confidence and precision required for patient safety.

Lab Safety Protocols & Guidelines

Background

The MCHS Skills Laboratory is a specialized simulation center designed to provide a "safe-to-fail" environment. Here, students from Clinical Medicine, Nursing, and Allied Health master critical procedures—ranging from simple IV cannulation to advanced neonatal resuscitation—before ever touching a live patient.

Academic Integration

Our instructors are clinical specialists who utilize standardized patient scenarios and high-fidelity manikins to challenge students. This rigorous training ensures that every student meets the technical and ethical requirements of the Medical and Nursing Councils of Malawi prior to their clinical placements.

Key Training Areas

The lab is divided into specialized zones to reflect various hospital settings:

  • Emergency & Resuscitation: Focused on BLS, ACLS, and trauma response.
  • Invasive Procedures Zone: For mastering injections, catheterization, and surgical assisting.
  • Maternal & Child Health: Focused on midwifery simulations and neonatal care.
  • Diagnostic Skills Hub: Training in patient assessment and data interpretation.
